Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag
Ground granulated blastfurnace slag (GGBS) is a by-product from the blast-furnaces used to make iron. Blast-furnaces are fed with controlled mixture of iron-ore, coke and limestone, and operated at a temperature of about 1,500°C. When iron-ore, coke and limestone melt in the blast-furnace, two products are produced—molten iron, and molten slag. The molten slag is lighter and floats on the top of the molten iron. On offer from us is Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag. It is obtained by quenching molten iron slag from a blast furnace in water or steam, to produce a glassy, granular product that is then dried and ground into a fine powder. It is suitable for applications in marine environment, mass concreting and sulphate environment, water retaining structures, basement and other structures which require low heat of hydration.
